How to get past your fears.<\/strong><\/h2>\nWhat\u2019s the worst that could happen?<\/p>\n
If you really can\u2019t get over your fears about what may happen in the future then go there.<\/p>\n
Go ALL the way there.<\/p>\n
Imagine the absolute worst case, over-the-top scenario.<\/p>\n
Pretend you quit your job, became an entrepreneur, and sucked completely at it.<\/p>\n
All your friends are making fun of you and you have gone bankrupt. You\u2019ve moved into your car, which then gets repossessed, and you are on the street.<\/p>\n
What now? You\u2019ve hit rock bottom.<\/p>\n
Well, you didn\u2019t suffer a brain injury. You can still think and still have skills.<\/p>\n
You use your head to solve your problem.<\/p>\n
You sleep in a shelter and get one decent meal a day at the food bank.<\/p>\n
You take the first job you can get, until you get a better job.<\/p>\n
You rent a room and have a place to shower and eat.<\/p>\n
Now that you are stable again you talk to your former employer. Or their competitor. Or someone else entirely, and get back into a good-paying job.<\/p>\n
The world didn\u2019t end.<\/p>\n
Interesting.<\/p>\n
The truth is, you probably would have taken corrective actions long before you were living in the street, if it had been necessary.<\/p>\n
Things rarely, if ever, hit worst case.<\/p>\n
The joy of letting it go<\/strong><\/h2>\nIf you can let go of the outcome, you can enjoy the journey.<\/p>\n
Without the outcome, there is nothing to lose and nothing to gain.<\/p>\n
It doesn\u2019t matter how bad things go wrong (or right!) because your happiness isn\u2019t tied to what happens. You are happy now.<\/p>\n
Does this mean you should go through life not caring at all.<\/p>\n
No.<\/p>\n
It means you do your best in every moment.<\/p>\n
Sometimes things will work out and sometimes they won\u2019t.<\/p>\n
Every time, you will know you have done your best, and you can\u2019t do better than that!<\/p>\n
The Opportunity Checklist<\/strong><\/p>\nThe next time opportunity presents itself:<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a01. Pause, and check with your heart. Ask yourself if this opportunity is meant for you.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a02. If your fears are getting in the way, indulge them. Think through the worst case scenario.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a03. Acknowledge that worst-case isn\u2019t likely to happen, and if it does you faced your fear in step 2. Throw away your objections.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a04. Move forward and do your very best in every moment.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a05. Reap the rewards of seeking opportunities rather than outcomes.<\/p>\n
