My Sweetie and I visited Dawson on our honeymoon in July 2025. We travelled from the Atlantic Coast across Canada in Vinny VAN Go, our mini-van converted for camping.
Up the Dempster Highway we went to Inuvik and got married in the “igloo church”. Just the two of us.
No fanfare for the wedding.
We honeymooned in Dawson. We planned to stay for day, maybe two…but found ourselves unable to leave. The end of the week found us still there wandering the streets of Dawson.
This tiny building tucked away on a side street caught my eye and captured my heart.
Little details like the colored Christmas lights (see them?) and the water bowl on the deck told me that “The Spirit of Dawson” had a story to tell.
Run by volunteers from the Dawson City Community Radio Society, it first went on air in 1948 making it one of the oldest community radio stations in Canada.
They broadcast online so you can listen from anywhere. Check them out! https://cfyt.ca
In an unexpected twist, the Radio Society saw the sketch I had done of the radio station online and reached out to me to get a print!
If you would like your own print, let me know at nolanoreen@gmail.com.
