Planning a cross-Canada road trip? From Fredericton, New Brunswick to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories (and back) the coffee shops you won’t want to miss…and not one of them was a Tim Horton’s.
**Apologies to the Tim’s fans.
Every good road trip begins with coffee. Especially:
- A 5-week living-in-a-van kind of road trip
- A road trip that takes you north of the Arctic Circle
- if you are going to get married while you’re “Up North”
You definitely need coffee.
In 2025 my Sweetie and I visited 28 coffee shops across Canada during a 18,550 km road trip to get married north of the Arctic Circle. We traveled from Atlantic Canada to Calgary, AB before making our way north to Tuktoyaktuk, NT. We traveled in Vinny VAN Go, a 2012 Dodge Caravan converted for camping.
I intend to do a little review of each cafe that we visited along the way and link it below. It will take me some time to get them all posted so come back often to check for new links!

1,772 km of the trip was the Dempster Highway where civilization (coffee shops being no exception) was mostly non-existent and we relied on our vintage coffee perk to make morning brew, but of course we made our own coffee many other mornings as well.
A few shots of of us brewing our own coffee. The photo on the right was me making coffee after we were displaced at 5 am by getting our first (and only) “knock” on the van door telling us we couldn’t be there. Stay caffeinated Friends!
